Profiles of top athletes – Conor Mcgregor


Wanting to become the world’s best athlete with a weight-loss diet and sheer desire is not enough. However, becoming a timeless athlete who has become part of the canon of their sport is an even more difficult task. There are, however, several well-known names of people who have succeeded. One of them is undoubtedly Conor Macgregor.

Irish warrior

Conor Anthony McGregor is an Irish mixed martial arts MMA featherweight, lightweight and welterweight fighter who was the first UFC fighter to be a dual champion. However, Conor has had a very long journey before making the transition to legedna.

Conor Macgregor was born in 1988 in Dublin’s Crumlin district, one of the worst areas of the city. During his youth he initially coached football, but gave it up when he turned 10. At the age of 12 he became interested in boxing, as he noticed that the sport was not only an effective fat burner, but also a way of defending himself against attackers. Three years later, he started practising kickboxing and jujutsu. At first, he did not associate his future with sport, as he had to find a job right after finishing high school. At the same time, he met UFC fighter Tom Egan, who was his first inspiration. Despite his studies and school, Mcgregor trained regularly. At the age of 18, he debuted in his first amateur fight, which he won by technical knockout. As a result, he was offered a professional contract from Irish federation Irish Cage of Truth Promotion. The fighter agreed without hesitation, after which he quit his job and fully dedicated himself to the sport. Despite living on the dole for the next few years, he believed that MMA would be more than just a natural fat burner for him.

A difficult beginning

The fighter made his debut in 2008, defeating his opponent by technical knockout. Unfortunately, after that, he started to score only losses first to Artemijen Sitienkow and then to Joseph Duffy. These losses took a heavy toll on his psyche as he seriously considered quitting the sport. However, he was helped by his mother, who made him realise that a weight-loss diet and long hours of training could not be in vain. Conor Mcgregor believed in these words, mobilised and returned to the ring, winning eight fights between 2011 and 2012 to become the Cage Warriors featherweight and lightweight champion. 

Such dominance in the ring could not go unnoticed, so in 2013 Mcgregor signed with the UFC, the largest mma federation in the world. In his debut fight, he heavily knocked out Marcus Brimage and then fought winning fights against Max Holloway, Diego Brandao and Dennis Sivera. As a result, he was given the opportunity to fight for the championship belt against Jose Aldo, the then UFC featherweight champion 

Double belt and UFC legend 

The fight with the then UFC featherweight champion took place in 2015. McGregor then scored his legendary knockout defeating his opponent in just 13 seconds becoming the new featherweight champion. Following the blow, he once again reached for his weight loss diet and began preparing for a fight for another belt. This time against Rafael dos Anios the then light heavyweight champion.

The bout was due to take place in May 2016, but just before the fight dos Anios suffered an injury and had to withdraw. The fighters announced that Nat Diaz would fight Mcgregor as a replacement and the fight would take place at welterweight. Unexpectedly, the legendary fight then took place, which was the start of a long-lasting conflict between Mcgregor and Diaz. The fight was unexpectedly won by Diaz knocking out Mcgregor in the first round, thus inflicting his first defeat in the UFC. Due to the huge media interest in the Mcgregor – Diaz feud, UFC officials agreed to organise a quick rematch. Just a few months later in the same year, Conor’s second fight with Nate took place, which this time was won by Mcgregor. And this time the Irish Notorious decided to follow suit and just a few months later his fight against Eddie Alvarez, the then UFC light heavyweight champion, was organised. The bout took place in November 2016 in New York. It was there that Mcgregor knocked out Eddie Alvarez and thus became the first fighter in UFC history to win two championship belts at the same time. 

Model and warrior

Conor Mcgregor is not only a talented MMA fighter, but also an athlete who knows exactly how to lose 10 kilos quickly. This is indicated by his thorough preparation for fights in various weight categories, but also by his participation in numerous photo shoots for many sports magazines. Mcgregor has appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated, Men’s Health, Men’s Fitness, Muscle & Fitness, GQ and The Body Issue, among others.

No surprise there, as the legendary Notorious, has a really well-developed body. At 175 cm tall, he weighs just 70 kilograms, the vast majority of which is muscle. This is indicated by a bust circumference of 107 cm, a dali circumference of 81 cm, a hip circumference of 84 cm and biceps of 38 cm. Such qualities indicate that Mcgregor knows exactly how an effective fat burner works.

Conor Mcgregor is not only a mixed martial arts legend and one of the best fighters in UFC history, but also one of the most influential and popular athletes of his time. His achievements, fierceness, fighting style and powerful punches have inspired many fighters around the world. Mcgregor proved that sport can not only be the answer to how to lose 10 kilos, but also a way to become a legend.
